I am not used to write much about my self. My name is Gísli Jóhann Sigurðsson, and usuallyI use the only the letter J in my middel name.
I started collecting matchbox labels around the age of 10 and have been collecting ever since, although with a 20-25 year break in collecting over time. I will be 74 this year. The labels that I have on my desk and that I am working with are actually my favorites at any given time. In recent years, various clubs have held online exhibitions that have made it possible for collectors like me to see items from other collectors without having to travel between countries, and they deserve a lot of praise for that. It may be negative to inform you, but the postal service has changed a lot in recent years and has made it significantly more expensive to be a collector in this country.
About these labels.
The first pictures are of covers made to commemorate the 1972 world championship chess match between Boris Spassky and Bobby Fischer. (These covers never went on sale).
Then there are two Three Stjárnor (Sweden) series intended for sale in Iceland. (Probably produced after 1970).
Scan of labels for shops, first is Thomsens Magasín. Thomsen Magasín was founded in 1837 and was the largest shop in Iceland for many years but had to cease operations during WWI due to its ties with Germany. (When the shop opened, the population of Iceland was 56,968 and 88,076 when the shop closed). Then a scanof labels printed for the shops of cooperatives and merchants in Iceland.
